Attuned - Video Series

Welcome!

With Attuned, Northwest Sinfonietta explores and celebrates the enormous impact of Black American composers and musicians on American music and culture. We were honored to collaborate with Tacoma Art Museum (TAM) and Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center (T.U.P.A.C) on this project, which was filmed inside The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection. Featured composers include Adolphus Hailstork, Scott Joplin, Duke Ellington, Florence Price, William Grant Still, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Gretchen Yanover and Jessie Montgomery. Each video begins with a short, behind-the-scenes introduction of the work by Dr. T. André Feagin, Director of Bands at Central Washington University. New choreography was created and performed for two of these works by T.U.P.A.C., which also featured in their ballet, Noir Black Noir.

Northwest Sinfonietta is grateful for special project support provided by Tacoma Arts Commission for Attuned, and for ongoing support from Tacoma Creates, ArtsFund, ArtsWA and many other donors.
